Have you lost your VAT certificate, or need to supply information to an agent to get authorisation?
This article will help you find, view and download your VAT certificate after you have registered for making tax digital.
When you authorise a new agent to look after your VAT affairs, you will need the the company name, the VAT number and the VAT registration date. Though the first two are easy to find on any recent VAT return, the effective date of registration for VAT is only held on your VAT certificate. Many VAT registered businesses have been so for a long time, and not needed that information regulary – and lost or misplaced their VAT certificate.
You can download your VAT certificate online, as well as requesting one from HMRC by post or by phone. The latter can take weeks to arrive, whereas an online certificate is instantly available.
